Student Wellbeing

Positive wellbeing is an important part of helping young people succeed both in and out of school. At Thomas Ashton School, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of all our students. We recognise that everyone faces challenges from time to time, and we aim to provide a safe, supportive environment where students feel listened to, understood, and valued.

Wellbeing Club

Students can also access our Wellbeing Club, which provides a welcoming space to connect with others, take part in activities, and focus on their wellbeing in a supportive environment. Our Student Wellbeing Ambassadors play an important role in promoting positive wellbeing across the school, helping to raise awareness, encourage kindness, and ensure that all students know where to access support when they need it.

#Beewell – Working in partnership with MMU

Working in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), we take part in the #BeeWell programme, giving students the opportunity to share their views and experiences through an annual wellbeing survey. The feedback gathered helps us better understand the needs of our young people, celebrate what is working well, and identify areas for improvement. By listening to student voice and using #BeeWell data to inform our practice, we can continue to develop support and wellbeing initiatives that reflect the needs of our school community.

Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA)

At Thomas Ashton School, our Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs) are trained members of staff who are committed to supporting the emotional wellbeing of our students. They provide an approachable point of contact for students who may be experiencing mental health difficulties, offering early support, a listening ear, and guidance to appropriate services when needed. Working as part of our wider pastoral and safeguarding team, our MHFAs help to promote positive mental health, reduce stigma, and ensure that students feel safe, supported, and able to access help when they need it.
